The Freshman Cake Race is a half-mile race held annually on the morning of the Homecoming football game. The tradition of the race dates back 113 years when, in 1911, it started as an open cross country race for students. Over the years the race has transitioned from a cross country team try out into a fun way to kick off the Homecoming game day. The race is open to all first year Georgia Tech students, including both freshmen and transfers, who are encouraged to run, jog or walk the course.
