ATLANTA (Sept. 18, 2026) — Georgia Tech today celebrated the completion of George Tower | Scheller Tower, a new home for industrial engineering and business education designed to prepare future leaders and strengthen Georgia’s innovation economy. 

The ribbon-cutting ceremony marks the completion of a project years in the making. The event brings together the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Scheller College of Business in a shared environment designed to encourage collaboration among students, faculty, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry partners. 

The building reflects Georgia Tech’s belief that many of the challenges facing Georgia and the nation require expertise from multiple fields. From advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence to healthcare, supply chains, and entrepreneurship, the next generation of leaders must understand both technology and business — and know how to work across disciplines. 

The project was made possible through support from the state of Georgia and the extraordinary generosity of Georgia Tech alumni and their families: Bill and Penny George, Ernest “Ernie” Scheller, and H. Milton “Milt” Stewart and Carolyn Stewart. Their leadership investments, along with the support of many other donors who contributed to the facility, reflect a shared commitment to generations of engineers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators who will help shape Georgia’s future. 

 “People will notice the striking architecture, the classrooms, and the technology inside the new towers,” said Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera. “What matters most is what that design enables — the learning and exchange of ideas between students, the multidisciplinary collaborations between engineering and business faculty, and the support of innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of Tech Square. We are grateful to the Georges, the Schellers, the Stewarts, and all our donors for their truly transformative investment, which will make our signature innovation district even more vibrant.”   

Located in the heart of Tech Square, George Tower | Scheller Tower strengthens connections between Georgia Tech and the companies, startups, researchers, and entrepreneurs that make Atlanta one of the nation’s leading innovation communities. By bringing education, research, and industry closer together, the building creates more opportunities for ideas to move into the marketplace and benefit communities across Georgia and beyond. 

The building also reflects the kind of engineering Georgia Tech teaches. Designed for the next 50 years, George Tower | Scheller Tower incorporates advanced systems and sustainable design strategies that significantly reduce energy and water use, lower environmental impact, and create efficient, flexible spaces for learning and collaboration. The project recently earned LEED Platinum certification, the highest level awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, and a 4 Peach rating, the highest rating through the Georgia Peach Green Building Rating System administered by the Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission. The Georgia Peach Program recognizes state-owned and state-managed buildings that demonstrate excellence in energy efficiency, sustainable construction, environmental stewardship, and resource conservation.
